How to cook tri tip steak cast iron. Remove tri tip from refrigerator, season liberally with spices on all sides and allow to come up in temperature about 10 minutes while you prepare other ingredients. Brown it on all sides. Heat a large cast iron skillet over medium high heat add olive oil.

Repeat with the smoked paprika and onion flake. Cook for 30 seconds, and then begin moving the steak around, occasionally. Remove steak from pan, and baste again with butter in the pan.

Spoon the butter above the steak, ensuring to pay the entire steak. For this cut, we recommend searing each side quickly in a cast iron skillet with a generous amount of olive oil, and finishing it on the grill. Once cooked, slice the steak and serve.

Then, preheat the skillet at a medium to high temperature, preferably for around 1 minute or so. Heat a cast iron pan over high heat for 5 minutes until it’s very hot (it will cool down quickly once the meat goes in). Move the steak to the other side of the grill where there are no flames and close the grill for roughly 20 more minutes (see notes for temperature and time.) take the steak off the grill and let rest for.

About 1 1/2 minutes in the second side, melt butter into your pan. In a small bowl, create a seasoning mixture with the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and rosemary. Place tri tip in skillet and brown on all sides.

Cook for approximately 30 seconds to lessen and soften the strip of fat. When the steak is only about finished, transform onto it’s back, fat side down. Sear meat on all sides over high heat to seal in flavor and juices.

Carefully flip the steak, placing it in a different section of the skillet. This takes between one and two minutes. Sear each side for approximately 2 minutes.

Remember to keep the tenderloin side further from the heat source as it will cook more quickly than the strip side. After the steak is seared, place the skillet in the oven and roast the steak for about 10. Place the steak into the skillet and cook until it’s easily moved.

Reduce the heat to medium and allow the roast to sear for about 4 minutes, or until browned. Add the steaks and cook, turning over once, for about 12 minutes for medium. Rub the tri tip with the salt, ground pepper, chopped rosemary leaves, and fresh rosemary until it is evenly coated.
